POSH CLUB

DUCKIE

The Ipswich Posh Club was run by Duckie in partnership with SPILL at Ipswich Town Hall on 4th June 2024, and, with 220 guests, was one of the biggest events in the project’s history. It featured performances by Shirley Classy, the UK’s premier Shirley Bassey tribute act; queer cabaret lip-sync vignettes from Pink Suits, and a carnival dance workshop by Rosy May. A unique ‘cake dance’ was choreographed specially for the Ipswich Posh Club by Karen Pratt and performed for guests by Rosy May, Penelope Iles, Carole Hood and Bethany Foster.

‘Everything was just so fantastic: the food, the atmosphere, the people, everything!’

‘I’m 83 and I’ve danced for the first time in years!’

‘Thank you so much. It was the best time I’ve ever had!’

‘We loved the Dirty Dancing routine! And all the food and drink has been brilliant!’

‘It’s so nice to do something like this in the afternoon. We don’t want to be out late at night anymore.’

The Posh Club was funded by Arts Council England, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk County Council, People’s Postcode Lottery & Ashton’s Charitable Trust. Photo credit: Alexander Ward.
