The phrase Madinah Thompson’s grandmother used to say goodbye after family visits - “Call when you reach” - is patois for 'call me when you get home (safely)'. And that is it. Madinah is trying to get home safely, trying to return from where trauma has waylaid her course. And she wants to land softly.

Made up of performance, collage and film, Call When You Reach looks at Black peoples relationships with rural Britain, and investigates the impact of trauma and how this leads to a disconnection from the physical body.

Madinah Thompson is determined through her work to heal herself and others. She embraces the slur of the angry Black woman and uses her practice to try and navigate a world that does not make space for her.

Think Tank Live events start with a performance or presentation from our featured artist, followed by a Q&A session hosted by our Artistic Director, Robin Deacon. Stick around afterwards for drinks and chat.
