As part of his commission for SPILL 2023, artist Bruce Asbestos will be working with primary school groups to produce sculptures of fantastical monsters.
Students will work with Bruce to design their own monsters in supersoft clay. After Bruce has made a provisional selection, the students will vote on the best sculpture from each workshop. This work will then be produced at a larger scale and be displayed along with Bruce’s unique playful inflatable sculptures as part of SPILL Festival in October.
The workshops will encourage children to use their imagination and feel a sense of ownership of art in the city and feel part of the process. The super soft modelling clay caters for all abilities and gives an insight into how contemporary art is made.
