Spill Stains: The Swan Song

by Anna Mortimer

Words Crash…Crumple…Crush.

It is a soft breath…breathe light.

It is jerk and pull…flap in broken flight.

It is a bandaged wing…bound and caught.

It is a tinkled bell…summon and call.

It is a pierced tongue…silent wound.

It is pearly feast.

It is thorny nest…be warned!

It is ugly duckling and dying swan…Tales of heroism, sacrifice and love.

It is endurance to stand…grey clad priestess.

It is endurance of weight…time time time.

It is endurance to wait….mark time time time.

It is agony to hold.

It is fall of foot…on pillow white.

It is uncertain look and pensive thought.

It is pen and write with Invisible ink.

It is torch…guide.

It is snip and slice.

It is sharpness of knife.

It is tug of string…make a choice.

It is float of balloon…rise and bob.

It is drop of balloon…fall to earth.

It is mirror reflect…narcissistic look.

It is ice swan melt…the sound of drip.

It is chilly water pool.

It is drench of clothes…wash and cleanse white.

It is antler horn…caught in lock.

It is over and words only crash…crumple…crush.
