PULL THE TRIGGER IS A LIVE ART / THEATRE / CABARET PERFORMANCE ABOUT THE WORLD OF CORNER SHOPS AND THEIR STRUGGLES, CELEBRATIONS AND DEBATED FUTURE.
The form manifests in recorded sound, music and task-based actions/rituals. The performance examines the intrinsically ‘Indian’ essence of independent shop keeping, whilst retaining what is ‘British’ about its history. Through the mundane actions of pricing, stacking and taking down stock, Vijay traces the thread of gentrifying areas and what threat this imposes on capitalist competition.
Vijay Patel is a live/performance artist who crosses forms into cabaret and installations. His work has previously dealt with the complexities of being of mixed Indian/British heritage and what that means within the contemporary condition. His work has previously examined arranged marriages, immigration and gender issues.
