In the moment when language fails you, how can you negotiate a sense of self? Echo/plasm delves into a psychosexual landscape beyond language through the metaphor of the ectoplasm.
A compilation of medical examinations, pseudo-scientific studies and accounts of material phenomena, recited and repeated. These texts are gradually erased through impeded speech, breathlessness and choked-out utterances. Slowly, the interior becomes exterior as the self emerges.
Jessica Worden is an artist and writer who works with poetics, performance and the corporeal. She explores overlaps in pleasure and trauma narratives from a queer feminist perspective and considers how these impact perceptions of precarity, femininity and mental health.
