“What we cannot speak about we must pass over in silence.” Ludwig Wittgenstein
Language plays an important role in society; we communicate and express our thoughts through language, all reality is language and without language there is no reality. Diary is a live performance bringing private thoughts into the public space.
Ruth Flynn graduated with first class honours in Visual Art at Waterford Institute of Technology. Her work provides an insight into the mind through an investigation into emotions, movement, language, sound and the senses, by looking at depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Synesthesia and our overall behaviour in society. Her research brings her into the areas of Philosophy, Literature, Music and Art.
It is exploration of the mind and human behaviour by undermining the viewer’s perception and bringing private thoughts into the public space. She uses her body as her material and art object, using her own personal experiences to express her ideas. Ruth’s performances are unique events; each one is different because of the connection that occurs between the performer and the viewer.
