ALMANAC IS A ONE-ON-ONE ENCOUNTER, MEDIATED BY RIVER STONES FROM ACROSS THE UK. A PERFORMANCE IS MADE SPECIFIC TO EACH AUDIENCE MEMBER; CONVERSATION BECOMES MOVEMENT BECOMES A SYMBOL, CULMINATING IN A BOOK OF SPELLS, AN ALMANAC OF RELATIONS.
Almanac is an exploration of Place-thought – the belief that place is alive, thinking and speaking, and humans derive all their consciousness and agency from there. Considering the relationship between ecocide and epistemicide, Almanac asks how we listen to material, spirit and the nonhuman world. We will teeter between recovery and projection, divination and imagination, belief and desire.
Laura Burns makes work across choreography, poetry and live art. Her practice asks how performance can invoke and respond to the agency of the material and non-human world. She is concerned with decolonising consciousness as an ecological imperative, if orality can ignite intuition, blur material and immaterial and decentre the human.
